[Invitation to Teachers] Lan Tianyou, Department of Foreign Languages: Using AI to Build a Highly Efficient English Speaking Practice Method

Dear teachers:

We thank the teachers for their valuable feedback on "improving English fluency" in the school satisfaction survey.

外語教學中心 understands that teachers often face challenges such as limited time for oral practice and a lack of consistent practice channels when promoting EMI teaching, international exchanges, or academic sharing. To address these needs, the center has specially planned the "English Oral Practice Workshop," inviting Professor Lan Tianyou from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature to share his insights and provide practical guidance.

Ms. Lan has extensive experience in helping non-English major teachers improve their spoken fluency. This workshop will share several effective practice methods suitable for utilizing spare time, combining practical application to help teachers establish self-directed practice methods that are integrated into daily life.

The core content of this workshop:

  • [Application of Speaking Tools]: On-site demonstrations and guidance for teachers to effectively utilize 外語中心 to promote ELSA Speak for pronunciation feedback and practice, transforming it into a personalized pronunciation and fluency coaching tool. It also incorporates Youglish to find the authentic usage of words in natural contexts.
  • 【Shadowing Follow-along Method】: Introduces the key points of Shadowing, which improves pronunciation rhythm, intonation, and speaking response speed through three steps: "listening, understanding, and simultaneous follow-along".
  • [AI-based Thematic Speaking Practice]: Demonstrates how to set effective prompts and use ChatGPT for thematic speaking practice, such as self-introduction, research sharing, classroom English, international communication, and other scenarios, to maintain language fluency in short bursts of time.

This workshop will provide hands-on practice for teachers. Teachers can practice directly using their own mobile phones or laptops. No specific English proficiency is required. Teachers are sincerely welcome to participate.
