Indonesia is an archipelago of multiculturalism and hundreds of ethnic groups. It was unified in the twentieth century by the founding fathers on the basis of Pancasila (the five principles of nationhood). The resources for exploring Indonesian culture and heritage can be found in books, orally, and through archaeological evidence. These historical materials bear witness to the development of Indonesia from a civilization with a glorious past to the present day, with a population of 270 million, one of the largest democracies in the world. This seminar will take you on a journey to encounter the rich history and culture of Indonesia since ancient times. It will also explain in detail why different ethnic groups and cultures can coexist in a country with such a rich diversity of cultures and ethnic groups, and will give you an insight into how modern Indonesians appreciate and promote their cultural heritage.
